Executive Director Opening
Job Summary
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position that can be fast-paced with multiple ongoing projects and deadlines. The Executive Director works with the Board of Directors and members to achieve the objectives of the Sandhills Cattle Association to promote the cattle and resources of the Sandhills through education, marketing, communications, and unique member services. Salaried position with flexible hours including sick leave, vacation, and paid holiday. Requires some overnight travel from time to time. Background in agriculture desired.
Executive Director Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for: managing the day-to-day operations and special projects of the Association, serving as the Secretary of the Sandhills Cattle Association and maintaining minutes of Board of Directors and committee meetings, practicing fiscal responsibility, implementing directives of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, acting as a spokesperson for the Association, serving as the Association’s registered agent, and communicating with members, clients, donors and the public about Association business and/or activities.

Planning and implementing day-to-day operations

Maintaining regular office hours (Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm).

Hiring and supervising employee(s).

Responding to member and client requests.

Serving as a public relations manager and spokesperson for the Sandhills Cattle Association.

Serving as a representative of the Sandhills Cattle Association at various meetings/events.

Website & social media account creation and management.

Managing office facilities and maintaining office equipment.

Board Management
-
Providing leadership and working collaboratively with the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, the committees, and the members to achieve the objectives of the Association.

Financial Management
-
Overseeing the finances of the Association including the development of budgets, banking, fundraising, maintaining accurate financial records, completing, and filing documents on behalf of the Association.

Working with the accountant to maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.

Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Program & Event Management
-
Devising and carrying out strategies for existing and new services.

Event planning such as the annual conventions, annual ranch tour, and educational/promotional events.

Coordinating and working with volunteers to enhance Association events and activities.

Member Management
-
Devising and carrying out strategies for membership recruitment and retention.

Communicating with members and clients via telephone, print, digital, and broadcast media.

Maintaining membership records and mailing lists.
-
Maintaining feed/pasture/jobs/employee lists.

Publication Management
-
Preparing and mailing newsletters and other publications according to the plan outlined by the Board of Directors and according to the rules and regulations of the mailing permit(s) held by the Association.

Sales and scheduling of advertisements that appear in the newsletters and on the website.

Gathering information about cattle prices, pasture rental, feed prices, and other information that is of interest to and will benefit members and clients, while maintaining confidentiality as is appropriate.

Gathering and distributing information about cattle for sale by members of the Association.

Skills

Proven experience as executive director or in other managerial position

Experience in developing strategies and plans

Ability to apply successful fundraising and networking techniques

Strong understanding of corporate finance and measures of performance

In-depth knowledge of corporate governance principles and managerial best practices

An analytical mind capable of “out-of-the-box” thinking to solve problems

The Sandhills Cattle Association uses Microsoft Programs including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Google Programs including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Wix Website Builder, Bloomerang, Quickbooks Online & Quickbooks Premier-Non-Profit, AccuZIP Addressing software, Adobe, and Acrobat apps.
