The Basset Farm and Ranch Expo is happening now in Bassett, Nebraska, so make sure you stop down and check out all the great vendors as well as pay a visit to the Sandhills Cattle Association. New member sign-ups get a chance to win a Wyld waterproof cooler with 2 bright green yeti cups!
It has been a few weeks since I have been on to share news about what has been happening down at the association! May 31st, we ended our first ever Ranch Mom’s Photo Contest in honor of National Beef Month and Mother’s Day. We had several great submissions which made choosing only 3 exceedingly difficult.
Our first-place winner was Mrs. Barb Wentz of Naper, Nebraska. Her story was so inspiring to myself, and I think is what we all hope to be as ranch moms and wives. Her picture was submitted by her granddaughter and is of Mrs. Barb sitting in the side by side overseeing the cattle work being done. Her granddaughter wrote, “My Grandma Barb has gone above and beyond for being one of the hardest working ranch wives around! She has helped my grandpa fix fence, hall cattle, brand, work hogs, and much more for almost 60 years! She has Alzheimer’s so this picture is very special because although she’s not able to do what she used to; she is still along for rides to aid my grandpa in a different capacity. I’m blessed to raise my family 15 miles away, and my three girls have been instilled with hard work ethic, a love for animals, and an appreciation for Nebraska farming and ranching!!” We thank Barb so much for her contributions to the Ag industry and wish this very hard-working lady all the best! Thank you to Husker Meats of Ainsworth, Nebraska for sponsoring her $150 beef box.
Our second-place winner was Kelsey de Ganahl! The picture submitted was of her holding her 3-month-old daughter leaning against the chutes after preconditioning calves! This is such a perfect depiction of the ranch mom life! Congratulations Kelsey and thank you for your submission! Also, a big thank you to 402 Beef Co. of Bristow, Nebraska for partially sponsoring the $150 beef box prize!!
Lastly, our third-place winner was Deandra Rousey of North Platte, Nebraska. Her picture was submitted by her husband and is of Deandra sitting horseback while her daughter pets her horse after moving pairs to a new pasture. Another great depiction of the ranch mom life, and wonderful not only see her daughter’s love the horse but also the beautiful sandhills and of course cattle in the background. Thank you so much for your submission and congratulations. Big thank you to the Valentine Locker for also partially sponsoring the $150 beef box!!

We are also running the Ranch Dads Photo Contest this month for all those great dads we know and love as well! You can find the link to submit on our website or on our Facebook page! We have gotten a ton of great submissions already, which is going to make the decision of choosing the top 3 even harder this month! Maker sure to submit by June 30th! Winners will be announced July 1st!
