Hey everyone, this is Amber Sides with the Sandhills Cattle Association with your update of the Sandhills Cattle News.

Our May publication was mailed out last Friday, so you should start seeing them in your mailboxes! So be sure to check them out, there is a lot of great information and advertisements you don’t want to miss!

We have lots of people seeking summer pasture so if you or anyone you know has pasture available, please contact us to post an ad for you or check out our website to see those seeking pasture.

Our wage survey is usually something we really push at the first of the year so that we can compile results for members or website users to use throughout the year. Unfortunately, our wage survey in the beginning of the year did not get a lot of participation, however after several requests for results, we decided to encourage ranchers to participate again! After a second time, we got quite a bit of participation back and we are currently working on compiling those results to release an updated version here very soon. So, check out the website if you are interested in receiving any data from the survey. Thank you to all that participated in this survey!

Why should you join the Sandhills Cattle Association? Our mission to promote the cattle resources of the Sandhills; however, we are growing so much that we are promoting the cattle and resources statewide. Our new and improved newsletter reaches almost 1,000 members and growing and covers most of Nebraska as well as parts of South Dakota, Kansas, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and more. It is a great opportunity to advertise your cattle in our feeder cattle news, have access to the list services which includes feed and pasture listing, employment opportunities, equipment for sale and more. We strive to provide the most for our members and of course cattle! We have different levels of membership based on the type of member and the type of services they want, from only obtaining a newsletter every month to advertising your business in every issue as well as representing it at the annual convention in September. We help small businesses looking to expand their advertising by using our expertise to make ads for them at no additional cost to their membership.

Stay tuned to as we will be introducing new memberships pertaining to Sale barns, online cattle auctions services as well as meat lockers, that we are super excited about!

This year we will have 4 wonderful board members whose terms expire and we will be looking for 4 more dedicated cattlemen and women to fill their positions! So, if you or someone you know would be interested in taking part in our board of directors, please contact us so we can you point in the direction of how to do so!

In other news we still have our ranch moms contest going on for 1 more week! So if you haven’t submitted a photo of your ranch mom yet, make sure you do so as soon as possible, winners will be announced on National Beef Day – May 28th! We have teamed up with some awesome local lockers who have sponsored each of the 3 prizes! 1st place was sponsored by Husker Meats of Ainsworth, Nebraska and they will be preparing and shipping a meat box valued at $150 straight to your door! 2nd place was sponsored by 402 Meat Company of Bristow, Nebraska and they as well will be preparing and shipping a meat box valued at $150 straight to your door. 3rd place was sponsored by Sandhills Cattle Association of $75 and matched by Valentine Locker of Valentine, Nebraska who will be preparing your meat box valued at $150 and shipped to your door by the Sandhills Cattle Association.
