June 11, 2021 Chewing the Cud

Updated: Jun 22, 2021

It looks like the first group of Educational, Performance & Carcass Contest calves will be heading out to their date with destiny next week. These calves have been fortunate to have had some great weather since they entered the feedyard, except for the hotter weather this past week. They have been finishing quickly, and I'm excited to see how they grade overall. The calves will be heading to Tyson in Lexington and will be receiving a $12 per head premium since they were not fed any Beta-Agonists. EP&C Contestants should look for their $150 per head down payment to be rolling out soon after the calves have sold.

Amber and I traveled to Columbus the first weekend in June to attend the Cattlemen's Ball. We had a great group of industry professionals in the Beef Promotion tent, including the Nebraska Beef Checkoff, the Nebraska Cattlemen, USDA, and Platte Valley Feeders. We will be attending the Sandhills Ranch Expo in Basset on June 16 & 17, so be sure to stop by the booth and see us as well!

We have just over 100 days until Annual Convention. It feels like yesterday that we cleaned up in Thedford, and now we're heading back to Valentine for the 82nd Annual Convention & Trade Show. Vendor packets will be hitting the mail very shortly. If you'd like a booth at the convention, or you'd like to sponsor an event, get ahold of us to secure your packet today.

This year's general theme for the convention will be successful calf production from your pasture to the consumer plate. We'll be having a couple of panel discussions with auction, backgrounding, and feedyard preparation for your calves, carcass cutting and preparation, and marketing meat from your ranch. Sustainable Beef LLC will also be there to discuss their new facility near North Platte. And, we just secured Brent Reed, "The heavyweight of clean comedy," as our evening entertainment. Don't forget that we have the Sandhills Golf Classic on the Monday prior to the convention, and we added the Cookoff to the mix this year as well! This year is gearing up to be a good one, so be sure to reserve September 20 & 21, 2021, to attend!
