May 10, 2022 - Chewing The Cud

It’s CONVENTION month! We are pumped for this year’s convention to be held at the Atkinson Community Center in Atkinson, Nebraska, on May 27. We’ll be kicking off the 27th with a tour over to Cottonwood Feeders in Stuart, Nebraska, to check on our Educational, Performance & Carcass contest calves. We’ll have a great lineup of speakers when we get back, so plan to join us for our keynote speakers Amanda Radke and Rob Sharkey, ‘The Shark Farmer.’ Other exceptional speakers lined up will be the Nebraska Department of Ag, the Nebraska Brand Committee, and Suther’s Feed’s Scott Ruzicka. We also have about twenty-five indoor and outdoor vendors ready to discuss your ranch needs! We’ll have the pen of three contest again with replacement heifers and the ice cream social for those with a sweet tooth. Then we’ll end the evening with a fantastic meal put together by the Cast Iron Bar & Grill of Stuart, our annual Scholarship Benefit auction, and dance the evening away with the Twin River Band of Merriman.

Don’t forget - on May 26, we’ll be having our annual golf tournament and cookoff contest! We’ve extended the deadline for the cookoff contest entry, so enter today if you want to show the world you’re the culinary master behind the grill!

For those of you who don’t know, I have accepted a position with the South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks and will be moving to Pierre, South Dakota, in just a couple of weeks. That being said, the Association is looking for a new Executive Director. The application is open and available on our website at https://www.sandhillscattle.com/employment.

While the Executive Board goes through the transition into a new Executive Director, I will continue to assist in the care of the Association to keep the change as smooth as possible. Maddie will still be in the office and available to answer your questions as they arise.

This career change has been a very difficult decision and not one I have taken lightly. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work as the Executive Director for the last two and half years. I’ve greatly enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to work with the fine folks of the Sandhills and expand the programs the Sandhills Cattle Association has to offer. I wish for nothing but the continued success of the Association and will always look back at my time with the Sandhills Cattle Association with great fondness.
