September 9, 2022 - Chewing the Cud

Just like that, August has come and gone. School started a few weeks ago, high school sports are well underway, the Huskers have one loss under their belt (nothing new there), and the weather is starting to change. Fall has always been my favorite time of year because of the daily changes you're seeing. Plus, I love weaning calves. Do not ask me why; I just always have.

As September gets underway, here at the Sandhills Cattle Association, we have some events coming up that we are very excited to host. On September 22nd, we are hosting our 3rd Annual Fall Feeder Calf Preview Near Merriman, NE. Registration begins at 8:45 MT by the Sand Bar. Coffee and donuts will be provided. At 9:30, we are heading out to our first stop, Wobig Ranch. From there, we will hit Anderson Ranch at 10:15, Spearhead and Circle M Ranch at 11:00, then lunch at Bowring Ranch State Historical Park at 11:45 with a speaker from Elanco. At 1:00, we will see Primal Plains and, lastly, JF Ranch at 1:45. We are very thankful for all our sponsors and ranches that are a part of this year's Fall Feeder Calf Preview. If you are interested in RSVP'ing for this event, please give us a call at the office or RSVP on our website.

We are going to be busy at the end of September. Because the day after the Fall Feeder Calf Preview is our EP&C Contest Banquet in Stuart at the Cast Iron Bar and Grill, September 23rd at 6:00 PM CST, we will be feasting on a prime rib dinner while enjoying re-capping and giving awards for this years EP&C contest. We have had a lot of RSVPs so far, but if you want to join our festivities, please give us a call at the office, and we will put you down.

The Sandhills Cattle Association recently had a full Board meeting where we discussed several items. One of those topics was the podcast Maddie so graciously gave me to take over. I have radio experience and enjoyed my time on the radio, so the podcast was nothing new for me. I got the go-ahead to start making the podcast my own and tweaking it how I see fit. So, you will be hearing some changes over the next few weeks that I am very excited to start. Do not worry; I will not be changing the tried-and-true items of the podcast. I will still be giving current updates on what's going on with the association as well as relevant ag news. But I want to add a few elements to the podcast to keep the listeners engaged and intrigued. With that being said, I would like your input. Yes, you reading this very article at this moment. I want to know what YOU want to hear on the podcast. What topics do you want to be covered? What interviews do you want to hear? Maybe you want to be interviewed yourself! Hey, I am entirely okay with that! Or perhaps you have an event that you wish to advertise on the podcast. I want to know what you want to listen to! I will consider all suggestions and pick the ones that best suit the association and its members. Again, this is something that I am very excited to provide this for our members, and I want to expand the podcast to provide helpful information. Give me a call at the office or send me an email. I would love to chat with you about your ideas.

I am feeling very blessed today. The reason being is that I realized that I have the most incredible job ever and work with some of the most amazing people. The Board, Maddie, and you all have been so welcoming and kind. Growing up around cattle, I knew I wanted to stay in the ag industry. For the longest time, I yearned to return to the ag industry somehow, and when this job opened up, I couldn't have been more excited. Elysabeth has been amazing, and I cannot thank her enough for what she has done for myself and the association. We wish her the best of luck and blessings as she goes on to her next adventure.

Thank you for taking the time to catch up on what's been going on with the association. Say your prayers for rain, and God bless!
